Description of the organization and context

Native Montreal is an indigenous friendship center serving the diverse urban Indigenous community of the greater Montreal area. One of our organisations  priorities is supporting the wellbeing of indigenous youth with engaging holistic programming with the ultimate goal of helping youth attain their aspirations and have  a supportive of community.

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Director of Social and Cultural Development and in collaboration with the intervention and programming teams, the Youth Coordinator is responsible for developing, coordinating, and evaluating various programs, projects, and initiatives targeting Indigenous youth in the Greater Montreal region. Our programs for youth are based on Indigenous cultural practices, outdoor activities, social involvement , leadership and skills développement, and learning and sensitizing about various issues affecting youth.

General functions

  • Coordinate youth programs (Planning, budget management, coordinate resources, communications, logistics, client and partner relations, evaluations)

  • Engage with youth, gain an understanding of their needs as a basis of program development;

  • In collaboration with management, identify and solicit partners;

  • Support the development of a range of programs to support youth by offering them a positive enriching experience and learning opportunities;

  • Ensure reporting of all programming under their responsibility to relevant funders

Specific Functions

  • Records statistical data as required by management;

  • Provides information on Native Montreal and local services;

  • Carries out relevant research to adapt programming to the needs of Indigenous youth;

  • Organizes and promotes its services to youth where they are and to the various partners of Native Montréal;

  • Organizes or participates in information and awareness activities on various topics related to youth;

  • Participates and collaborates in training activities;

  • Maintaining a dynamic program by seeking opportunities for expansion and development

  • Assisting in writing grant applications

  • Acting as a liaison between provincial and national friendship center associations initiatives targeting youth

  • Perform other related duties;

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in project management, social work, or other relevant studies;

  • 3 years experience in a related work experience;

  • Program management experience is an asset;

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite, G-suite, Asana;

  • Excellent spoken and written French and English. English proficiency is required to provide services to English-speaking members;

  • Must have no judicial or criminal impediment that would prevent employment in this position.

  • A valid driver’s license

Skills and Abilities

  • Diplomatic in their dealings and have the ability to create positive relationships;

  • Experience in organizing outdoor activities such as canoe trips, hiking, camping is an asset;

  • Excellent knowledge of working with Indigenous youth is an asset;

  • Ability to adapt to the needs of the environment and the clientele;

  • Strong skills in communication, listening, and empathy;

  • Respect and sharing of values of Indigenous culture;

  • Ability to work as a team, recognize each other's expertise and positive leadership;

  • Demonstrate creativity and professional autonomy;

  • Demonstrate flexibility with work and scheduling;

Terms

  • Starting date: Immediately;

  • Full-time leave replacement contract, 35 hours a week from Monday to Friday with occasional hours on the evenings and weekends based off program and youth needs;

  • A competitive salary according to our salary policy ($50,000 - $70,649)

  • Employer-contributed pension plan

  • 3 weeks of vacation after the first year. (Including two additional fixed weeks for the holiday season available from the first year)

  • 15 sick days per year

  • 5 days of family responsibility
