Role Title:              Interim Language Program Coordinator

Reporting to            Director of Social and Cultural Development

Our mission is to contribute to the holistic health, cultural strength and success of Indigenous families, individuals and communities in the greater Montreal area. Native Montreal is a non-profit, multi-service, community-based Indigenous organization encompassing cultural and psychosocial intervention programs dedicated to Indigenous people of various age groups. We are proud of the Friendship Center movement. Our Indigenous Languages ​​program offers learning workshops in over 9 Indigenous languages ​​to over two hundred participants per year.

Under the supervision of the Director of Social and Cultural Development, the Interim Indigenous Language Program Coordinator will have the mandate to support management in coordinating an Indigenous language teaching program for various clientele (children, youth, adults) as well as all initiatives. linked to the teaching, enhancement and promotion of indigenous languages. This role is also responsible for the annual language conference, held at the end of summer.

More specifically:

Administration

  • Coordinates various administrative activities with the goal of ensuring a positive learning environment and the effective use of program resources.

  • Participate in the selection, training and supervision of teachers as well as all employees related to indigenous language initiatives

Participant Services

  • Ensure the management of customer service such as complaints, cancellations, absence, compliance with the code of conduct

  • Ensure communications for the promotion of activities and any other initiatives in indigenous languages

  • Coordinate registration periods and ensure quality service to participants

  • Supervise and support teachers and presenters as well as any other employees related to Indigenous language initiatives

  • Develop or update the range of educational tools, online and in person

  • Monitor inventory of instructional materials, equipment and supplies to identify items to be provided

  • Teaching in accordance with the established program.

  • Evaluate the quality of services provided

  • Evaluate the work of teachers as well as any other employees related to indigenous language initiatives

  • Ensure accountability for activities, budget management and evaluation of the effects of projects and services with the aim of ensuring compliance and maximizing the effectiveness of the program.

  • Ensure database management linked to the program such as validating customer files and posting registration forms online

  • Contribute to developing and implementing protocols and/or service agreements with partners

  • Coordinate partnerships related to Indigenous language initiatives

  • Contribute to the process of developing policies and procedures related to program management

  • Contribute to the drafting of funding applications and the search for financing

  • Participates in team meetings, workshops, training and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information necessary to perform duties.

  • Perform other related duties.

REQUIREMENTS

Training and experiences

  • Hold a baccalaureate (BAC) in cultural management, language teaching or any other field deemed relevant

  • Experience teaching Indigenous languages is an asset

  • Experience in service management, project and/or administration of more than 2 years

Required knowledge

  • Knowledge of language teaching is an asset

  • Knowledge of the indigenous environment and having work experience in an indigenous environment

  • Knowledge of using relational databases

  • Good command of the Microsoft Office suite as well as Gmail tools

Skills and Abilities

  • Indigenous identity and lived experience within Indigenous communities (asset). Non-Indigenous candidates should have experience in Indigenous contexts and a demonstrated record of culturally safe practice;

  • Skills in: research, planning, organization, management, communication, and budget monitoring;

  • Proficiency in French and English (oral and written).  Proficiency in English is required for this position in order to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with partners, members, and/or stakeholders whose working language is English.

  • Have ease of writing and a spirit of synthesis;

  • Be comfortable working in a context that is constantly changing;

  • Be available to work evenings and weekends depending on deliverables; Be autonomous, creative and dynamic;

  • Good knowledge of human resources management

  • Be able to work in a multidisciplinary team and develop a strong spirit of collaboration;

  • Excellent ability to adapt,

  • Ability to work with a diverse clientele;

  • Must pass a criminal background check.

Terms

  • Full-time employment, 35 hours per week Monday to Friday;

  • The salary scale is between (50,000 and 75,000) depending on experience

  • Extended schedule occasionally evenings and weekends depending on program needs;

  • Three weeks of vacation after the first year and two weeks of vacation during the Christmas holiday period
